SB 600 (Bumstead) Michigan Merit Curriculum
This bill, introduced by Senator Jon Bumstead (R), would create flexibility in the current Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC). The “Comparison Chart” below illustrates the difference between the current MMC and SB 600. Core area subject credit hour requirements would remain the same. However, Algebra II would become an option, U.S. History and World History would become options – more specific requirements now determined by local districts. Performing Arts, Physical Education, Foreign Language would all be options placed into a 4 credit locally determined courses requirement. The online learning experience would remain and the math in senior year would be deleted. [Click on SB 600 below to get a status of this legislation]
